James New’s credentials are impressive: he has put in thousands of hours at the bench, working very closely with legendary craftsmen Domenick Calicchio and Zigmant Kanstul. He’s served as a consultant to many companies, resulting in innovations embraced by the trumpet community at all levels. Definitely an unsung hero of the brass world.
The Lead-Line series mouthpieces are designs comparable to those used at some point in the careers of some of the worlds greatest lead trumpet players. Once analyzed, the misconception that all “lead” mouthpiece are small and tight becomes false. When a player has developed the proper playing technique, any mouthpiece that player is comfortable with, is capable of becoming a “lead” mouthpiece. While a shallower cup can enhance the upper register it is by no means mandatory. The player is the key to the sound production and quality. The mouthpiece only helps you be the best you can be.

This mouthpiece cup has that fabulous Shew 1 rim contour, but with a somewhat smaller diameter cup. This cup is nearly new, but priced as “used” as it did get some time in the rehearsal room and on stage. This James R New Lead-Line mouthpiece cup has been cut and threaded, and is only available from them by special order. The equivalent - the popular Shew 1 Marcinkiewicz - is frequently out of stock, and it's not available as a cup-only anyway. So get it from the Brass Mavens instead!
