Pierre Michelou Custom Trumpet Mouthpiece, Made By Kanstul
Pierre Michelou (sometimes known to his pals as "JP") was a pro player in the Los Angeles area who enjoyed an interesting and storied career. One of many legendary Disneyland players over the years, Pierre also went on to perform with the Pacific Symphony, and then on to a career working with artists like Jose Carreras, Andy Williams, Natalie Cole and Helen Reddy. Sadly, the California trumpet community lost Pierre not long ago, but he was a local titan and will be missed.
Years ago, Pierre was the play tester for Benge trumpets, under the watchful eye of the legendary Zig Kanstul. Later, when Zig was approached by Boosey & Hawkes to recreate the historic Besson trumpets, Pierre was Zig's choice to test them. Locally, JP is also known for having owned a car wash, a comic book store and a pro audio business. A powerful player and Renaissance man! In the past, Marcinkiewicz offered a Michelou artist model, but this one is made from a scan of JP's own everyday mouthpiece.
Custom mouthpiece made for LA player and trumpet personality Jean-Pierre Michelou. The cup is medium deep, with an inner rim diameter of 0.689" diameter - putting it in the neighborhood of a 1C. It has a Marcinkiewicz backbore. The throat is a slightly-larger-than-standard no. 25 or no. 26. A big boy mouthpiece with a big sound - use it for big band and pops ensembles. Bold and clear!
