Fiery lead trumpet player Steve Reid has been wowing audiences and trumpet players alike for years. His clean, consistent lead work on demanding charts, as well as his command of the extreme altissimo register has earned him the respect of the trumpet community.
Steve and his brother John have worked together in horn sections all over the country, but maybe most "famously" in New Orleans, where they played in the house band at the iconic New Orleans club The Famous Door in the French Quarter. Steve was the last trumpet player hired by Mercer Ellington for the great Duke Ellington Orchestra. Later, Steve joined the roster of several notable bands, including Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau and KC & the Sunshine Band. Maybe you heard him play on several albums and tours with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Steve also held a coveted spot as part of NPG horn section, performing and touring with the legendary Prince, as well as 3rdeyegirl and Liv Warfield. Along the way, Steve recorded and toured with legendary gospel artist Fred Hammond (earning a Grammy), the Al McKay AllStars and more.
Steve is a fun cat to hang with and when he’s on the bandstand he’s strictly business - and he never misses!
